I feel a lot of energy around the site this week. Jowy’s new blog, and all the ideas about gyms and tournaments, it’s got my trainer’s blood boiling. And to top it all off, a real, face-to-face meeting at the Nintendo World Store. Man, what next, Team WTPT hats or badges? I think this will not only make us a stronger society, but will allow us to better make the site a community, and we can plan some amazing things for the future.
I want to have my new team ready for the meetup, so I’ve been hitting the recruitment hard. Just the other night, one of our awesome allies traded me the Kyogre I needed with some amazing IV, and named it Big Whale. I’ve also bred the stock of Paras I need for the next member of my team. In fact, just to show our visitors how stats can carry even in lower levels, below I’ve included the stats for all the ones I bred. I attached berries to each just to tell them apart. These are all Impish nature at level 25:
This is the moment you chat room regulars have been waiting for. The chat rooms for the first two official Pokémon Times gyms are now open.
There will be a meet up this Friday, 8pm EST for members of each gym to decide on the following:
-Gym name
-Special battle rules
-Badge name/design
-Member initiation process
-Gym leader selection process
If you would like to read more about the gyms, check out Jowy’s Blog.
Since 1999, Pokémon movies have made fans storm the theaters and search for the adventures of Ash Ketchum and his friends on DVD.
The newest entry in the series, Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai made its world premiere on Cartoon Network February 24, at 7 p.m. EST after debuting in Japanese theaters on July 17, 2007.
As with previous Pokémon movies, one can expect lots of action, special FX, and good story and The Rise of Darkrai doesn’t disappoint. The story starts out with Ash, Brock, and Dawn continuing their adventures with their Pokémon. They travel to a place called Allamo Town, which is filled with wonder, peace, and many Pokémon battles. But our heroes find themselves in the middle of a Battle between three powerful new Pokémon. The mysterious Darkrai, Dialga, and Palkia These Pokémon make their animated debuts in this movie). When their fight within another dimension threatens the entire town, three new characters named Alberto, Tonio, and Alice, come to aid Ash and his friends help save the day. more…
I am heading back home on Monday and I’ve decided to take tomorrow off. I think you’ll agree that I deserve a day off! Anyway, I’m going to use this last blog to update on all the topics I’ve discussed in the past week.
Übercaster: We recorded the most recent WTPT episode on it and I was less than impressed. It is a bit glitchy. Even still, I think we will be giving it another shot in the near future.
Gyms: This is getting really interesting. I have starting appointing the first eight founding members for each of two gyms and there is already a pretty strong buzz about it.
When we fill both groups, the founders will decide on a name for their gym, a badge name/design, battle rules and special conditions, methods for initiating new members and methods of deciding upon a gym leader. These discussions should be held some time this coming Friday night (EST). I will try to get the gym rooms up around Wednesday. more…

I was brainstorming with the good folks in the chat room about the logistics of the new chat rooms/gyms we will be creating in the near future. After a bit of discussion, I believe the way it should work is when you click on the Chat link, it will bring you to a page with a lobby. This is where people will socialize and shmooze. The bottom of this page will contain links to the gyms for anyone who wants to battle.
The gyms will be organized as follows: each gym will have their own set of battle rules, system for determining a gym leader and unique badge. The gym rooms will have three ranks. The first rank will be ‘Guest.’ This rank will be denoted by a green icon and is reserved for first time visitors to the gym, folks from other gyms that want to challenge the members of that gym or people that seek to become a member of the gym.
Second, of course, will be ‘Member.’ This rank will be denoted by a blue icon. Each gym will conjure up its own rules for inducting new Members. No one will be allowed to be a member of more than one gym at a time. Being a member of a gym should give you some special benefits within that gym. For example you might get a vote in determining that gym’s leader.
The last rank will be ‘Gym Leader’ and will be denoted by a white icon. As mentioned earlier, each gym will have its own way to determine its Leader. One gym, for example, might have it members vote to elect a Leader. Another gym might have a system in which the members have a regular tournament to determine the Gym Leader. The Leader will likely have other responsibilities that I will cover in later blog.
I suppose it would be best to start with two gyms. I will be looking for volunteers in the coming days to found both of these groups. Look for me in the chat room and let me know if you have any interest in helping out.
For all you Pokémon anime watchers out there, it seems like Viz Media (the distributor to other popular shows like Bleach, Naruto, and Death Note) will be releasing new box sets of two of your favorite Pokémon seasons!
The first to be released will be the 4th box set for Pokémon Season 1. This box will be released on May 20th and will include about 760 minutes of episodes, though the exact number of episodes included has not been released. This part of the anime covers Ash, Misty, and Tracy’s adventure through the Orange Archipelago.
The second box set to be released will be the 1st box set for Pokémon: Battle Frontier. . This box will be released on June 24th and will include about 520 minutes of episodes. This part of the anime covers Ash, May (Misty’s replacement), Brock, and Max’s various encounters with Team Aqua and Team Magma.
Both of the box-sets will cost a $39.98 each, which is a relatively good price for about 26 episodes of Pokémon content.
You will notice right away the quality difference of this episode. That is because we recorded from two totally different locations. We go through voicemails, e-mails, a new Blaine’s Gym and more!

It was very hard to keep my mouth shut yesterday about the many things discussed in the latest podcast. If you haven’t listened to it yet, you should probably check that out first. Here’s the run down of some of the interesting things we spoke about:
-Announcement of new contest
-First Pokémon Times real-life meet up in March
Firstly, I’d like to talk about the contest we announced. Let me say, if you would like to help us out, but you aren’t much of a writer or photographer, here is the perfect opportunity to! We are asking our listeners to send us voicemails discussing what they like about the show and why they listen. These will be used in future promotional media for the show. I’m not sure that there will be any prize for this one, because I’m not sure how we would judge the entries.
Regarding the meet up: I can’t wait for this! Arcanator has been saying for a while that he is going to be in New York for the Super Smash Bros. Brawl release party at the Nintendo World Store. I got really excited when I came up with the idea to have a real live meet up at this event. Even if it is just me, KC and Arc, it should be fun, but it would be even more cool if some more of our listeners showed up to say hi! We will post more details about this as the event gets closer. more…
I received a couple interesting e-mails in response my inquiry about making multiple chat rooms and calling them “gyms.” Here they are:
Here are a few suggestions for the chat room. You could probably divide it up into three different groups for now.
- The first group can be a “Social Lounge”. This is where people can chat about nonsense, talk about random stuff, etc.
- The second group can be the “TPT Gym”, where people can arrange battles, talk strategy, etc.
The third group can be the “Gym Leader” section. Every month, we can somehow delegate the “Gym Leader of the Month”, where people can challenge the current leader for non substantial prizes (such as forum medals, or honorable mentions).
