Director Junicihi Masuda and Game Designer Takeshi Kawachimaru spoke with G4TV yesterday regarding the new Pokémon Platinum game, answering many questions about the game’s design and the future of the series.
The two spoke about such topics as where the concept for Giratina came from and why there are so many hidden stats like EVs. Most notably, Masuda finally addressed the possibility of a console MMO, saying, “One of the core concepts of the Pokémon games is trading. You can trade within the game, but you can also go out and meet with your friends to trade … For this concept, the most suitable hardware is portable, like the Nintendo DS.”
Masuda said in his blog, Hidden Power of Masuda, that he really enjoys interviews outside of Japan like this one because people ask him broad questions like these, rather than just specifics about the upcoming game.

That’s epic! I guess I missed the interview on G4. I love when these guys talk! Its so interesting.
Oh, how interesting! I shall have to read the article later, for I have Chinese homework calling my name, haha. And ah, a MMO! That would be so amazing to see!
I must read his blog too…
Intersting interview. It seems like the Distortion World is going to be the “big” thing in Platinum. Maybe even bigger than Victory Road? Anyway, I just hate it when people say that pokemon is for kids. He made my day by talking about EV and IV training, breeding, and Hidden Power.
well, this just makes me more excited for this sunday!!!
Pokemon MMO for the win!! I so hope this gets done soon.
An MMO sounds completly awesome. Why haven’t they made this any sooner.
If they do, in fact, make a Pokemon MMO, I think Pokemon will become popular and “cool” again. Bobby will go from beating us up to asking for tips! >:D
I think an MMO will either be AMAZING or really bad…
A Pokemon MMO would be AMAZING! XO
I love G4!!! I’ll be watching out for the interview!!
I think he said there will not be a Pokemon MMORPG.
Just enjoy the game as is.
It stinks, I used to have G4 until my cable got jacked up and we don’t have it anymore
*sigh*
Wow. That was…a surprisingly fulfilling review. I’m honestly impressed.
I’m looking forward to seeing Platinum’s “sense of bipolarity” even more now! ^^
evs were brought up thats a good bonus to us
If you notice, he talked about the “older” stuff of pokemon like stats/mmo, and not about the little kid stuff. Hahaha glitchmaster.
An MMO would be neat.
But I doubt I’d play it for a long time.
Actually Masuda and Kawachimaru also did a print interview with Nintendo Power, which was printed in their April ’09 issue (most recent issue), along with their Platinum feature. It’s pretty cool.
